The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), has disclosed that the destruction of five illegal refineries by its special unit, also known as the Special Anti-Vandal Monitoring Unit (SAVMU) at Obodo community in Warri North local government area of Delta State.
The NSCDC NHQs director of public relations, DCC Olusola Odumosu, who made this known in a statement made available to newsmen in Abuja, said that the corps carried out the operation following a tip off on the activities of oil thieves in the area.
Odumosu also stated that two (2) suspects were arrested, adding that the illegal refineries belong to one unnamed woman and two men who are presently in the NSCDC custody.
According to the statement, the commander of the unit, DCC Brah Umoru Samson, said that the SAVMU will not give criminals any opportunity to sabotage the country’s economy.
Samson therefore warned all oil thieves and pipeline vandals to desist from the criminal act as anyone caught must face the full wrath of the law.
According to him, there are many legitimate businesses which they can engage in without breaking the law or putting their lives and critical national assets and infrastructure at risk.
