Monday, October 2017 – The Director of Petroleum Resources, Mr. Mordecai Danteni Baba Ladan along with members of DPR’s top management, hosted members of the Federal House of Representatives Committee on Downstream Petroleum led by its chairman, Hon. Akinlaja Joseph.
The Law makers were in the DPR as part of their visit to Lagos state to engage the state government and other stakeholders in seeking a permanent solution to the recurrent traffic gridlock and road menace in the Apapa area, ostensibly caused by petroleum products tankers and similar vehicles used for transporting goods from the port area.
Mr. Ladan during the engagement highlighted DPR’s role of regulating affairs that occur only within products depots and allied facilities. Stating that we had no influence or control over the access roads leading into the facilities. He however pledged DPR’s unalloyed support and cooperation with the committee and Lagos state government in putting lasting strategies in place to eliminate the gridlock.
Hon. Akinlaja stated that the committee had drawn up a framework which it believed was very workable, especially in concert with the Lagos state government, in addressing this perennial issue. He was quite optimistic that local authorities would support his committee’s efforts in bringing lasting solutions to the problem.
Part of the strategies he was proposing would include, the government providing trailer parks in neighborhoods adjoining Apapa and charging a nominal fee for use by the trailers until it was their turn for loading. This way, those vehicles would have no business parking along the bridges and clogging up the access roads into the suburb and disrupting traffic in that area.
