The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) has instructed all the power Distribution Companies (DisCos) in the country to complete the listing of their customers by March 31, 2019.
Electricity consumers were also urged to cooperate with the DisCos within the 42 day period left of the exercise.
NERC had in a statement said: “This is very important and it is in the interest of consumers as it would improve metering and help DisCos to respond to electricity issues quickly.”
The Commission said completion of the listing would help easy metering of existing and new customers, improve the accuracy of billing, advance the quality of supply and quicker fault response time.
NERC also said that once the enumeration is completed, the DisCos would be able to determine the unique Customer Identification Number (CIN) for every electricity customer in Nigeria.
“The CIN will become a critical factor for identifying genuine customers in transactions with the DisCos,” the statement read.
